Buckeye Booster Drawing

The university is awarding $80,000 in prizes for students, faculty and staff who receive their booster dose. Beginning the week of February 6, the university will conduct drawings to award $100 cash gift cards to 50 students and 50 employees each week through the week of April 3.

Week One

The first 100 winners of the Buckeye Booster Drawing received $100 gift cards Feb. 10 after being randomly selected from more than 13,000 people who submitted entries before the first drawing. Read more on Ohio State News. 

Week Two

The prizes keep coming as more students, faculty and staff report they have received their COVID-19 vaccination booster. Another 100 students, faculty and staff won $100 gift cards on Feb. 17 in the second round of the drawing, bringing the total number of winners to 200. Read more on Ohio State News. 

Week Three

Week Four

One hundred more winners of the Buckeye Booster Drawing received their prizes on Thursday, March 3, bringing the total to 400 winners. Read more on Ohio State News. 

Week Five

Week Five brings the total number of winners to 500. One hundred more winners received their $100 prizes on March 10.

Week Six

Another 100 students, faculty and staff won $100 gift cards on March 24 in the Buckeye Booster Drawing. So far, 600 people who have reported their COVID-19 vaccination booster shot have won prizes through the drawings. Read more on Ohio State News. 

Week Seven

March 31 marked the seventh week of winners in the Buckeye Booster Drawing with 100 more students, faculty and staff members receiving $100 gift cards. The deadline for the final drawing is Sunday, April 3 at 11:59 PM.

Week Eight

The final round of Buckeye Booster Drawing Winners received their $100 gift cards on April 7. Over more than two months, 800 students, faculty and staff won prizes after receiving their COVID-19 booster shot and reporting it to the university.

The winners of the drawings will be randomly selected from among all eligible entries received. One hundred cash gift card prizes worth $100 will be distributed each week.

One entry per person. Subject to verification of eligibility and compliance with these official rules, the potential winners drawn and verified will be declared the official winners of the drawings. 

Deadlines 

  • Individuals enter the vaccination prize drawing program by 11:59:59 p.m. EDT on the Sunday before a drawing to be eligible for that week’s drawing. Only one entry is needed per person – once entered, an individual will be eligible for all subsequent drawings. 
  • Prize winners will be announced each Thursday from Feb. 10 through April 7. 

Eligibility 

Students, faculty and staff on all Ohio State campuses may participate if they meet the following conditions: 

  • Have received all recommended doses of their COVID-19 vaccine (the booster and both shots for a two-dose vaccine, or the booster and one shot for the single-dose vaccine). 
  • Have reported their vaccination information. Vaccinated students should report their status through My BuckMD. Vaccinated faculty and staff should report their status through the Employee Health Record. (Even if you were vaccinated through the Wexner Medical Center, faculty and staff must report through this process to be eligible for prizes.) 
  • Students must be enrolled at the university for Spring 2022

What can I win?

The winners of the drawings will be randomly selected from among all eligible entries received. One hundred cash gift card prizes worth $100 will be distributed each week.

What is the deadline to enter?

The winners will be announced on Thursday weekly, for eight weeks, beginning on Feb. 10, 2022. There will be one drawing each week except during spring break, the week of March 14. Anyone who enters by 11:59:59 p.m. EST on the Sunday before each week’s drawing will be eligible. Once you have entered the vaccination prize drawing program, you are eligible for all future drawings.   

Do I need to enter more than once to be eligible for each drawing?

No. One entry is enough. Once you have submitted the vaccination prize drawing entry form and fulfilled the other eligibility criteria, you will be entered into all future drawings.

Where can I be vaccinated?

See the COVID-19 vaccine information page for details about vaccination locations, including Jesse Owens North Recreation Center and same-day care clinics operated through the Wexner Medical Center. The State of Ohio has a tool to help people schedule appointments at thousands of other sites throughout the state.

How do I share my information with the university?

  • Vaccinated students should report their status through My BuckMD to be eligible for prizes.
  • Vaccinated faculty and staff must report their status through the Employee Vaccination Record to be eligible. Even if you were vaccinated through the Wexner Medical Center, you must report through this process.

Do I need to be fully vaccinated to qualify?

Students, faculty, and staff must have received all recommended doses of their COVID-19 vaccine (both shots for a two-dose vaccine and a booster dose, or one shot for the single-dose vaccine and a booster dose) to be eligible for each drawing. You are not required to have completed the 14-day period after the booster dose to qualify.

Will these prizes be taxed?

Winners will be responsible for any taxes associated with their prize. Federal, state and local taxes are the sole responsibility of the applicable official winners. All winnings will be reported to the official winners and the IRS, as required by law. All federal, state and local laws, applicable taxes, and regulations apply.
